The Devil Dates 2020 — How Ryan Reynolds Summed up 2020 in an Ad
To celebrate the ending of a traumatic year, Ryan Reynolds jumped in to help 2020 find its perfect match. And it’s probably one of the best ads ever made.
It’s no news that last year was terrible. So terrible that most of us have been waiting since March to see it come to an end. And here we are, finally able to talk about 2020 as the “last year”. As much as we want to leave it behind, please bear with me for 2 minutes while to check out one of the best ads from 2020 (even though AdAge gave them only the 14th spot).
The Devil Wears Prada and, apparently, he dates 2020. Match, one of the most popular dating websites out there, helped Satan find the love of his life — 2020. So, if you had trouble finding ways to express your feelings towards the previous year, Ryan Reynolds came to the rescue with this on-point ad campaign.
Check out the first part here:
And the second one here:
So, we have Match.com, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” lots of references, either from rom-com movies like “As Good as It Gets,” “When Harry Met Sally…”, or many others, and the apparent hints related to 2020 events. Mix them up together and you will get “the funniest thing on TV” in December 2020, according to Your Morning.
Ryan Reynolds has been winning the advertising game since he started working on the commercials for Aviation Gin. They’re all available on his Youtube channel, but I’d recommend checking out this one, this one, or this one. Or this one, where he teams up with Hugh Jackman.
He’s doing an amazing job in promoting basically anything he touches. But don’t take my word for it and go check out his work. Or his Twitter. If you’re not familiar with it, you won’t regret it. If you are, then you know what I’m talking about.
After seeing everything Ryan’s done this year, I’ve got only one question. If his advertising game was so good in 2020, how high should our expectations be for 2021?
But, while waiting for 2021 to impress us with its incoming commercials, let’s take the ad’s advice and make 2021 our year! And let’s hope this year won’t be The Devil’s mistress.
